In Cambridge’s Hobson Square, New Sainsbury’s Local debuts.
Today at the opening ceremony for the brand-new Sainsbury’s Cambridge Hobson Square Local, coworkers and customers gathered to rejoice and cut the ribbon. The 2,972 square foot store, which has a prime location just a brief stroll from Addenbrookes Hospital, will be open daily from 7 am to 11 pm.
Sainsbury’s is dedicated to making a healthy diet accessible, and the shop will carry a tempting assortment of branded and own-brand favourites that are excellent values and of the highest quality. Residents and workers in the area will have the opportunity to try the latest convenience selection from Sainsbury’s, which includes sweet, savoury, and frozen staples as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy snacks, and food-to-go. In addition, they will be able to pick up products from Argos, Habitat, and Tu Clothing purchased online using the in-store Click & Collect service, as well as enjoy a hot beverage from a self-service Costa coffee machine.
The 15 coworkers who make up the new store team, ten of whom are new to Sainsbury’s, will participate in local charity programmes and initiatives as well as the company’s national charitable programmes. For instance, the new Local will collaborate with regional food donation partners through Sainsbury’s partnership with Neighbourly to help guarantee that any excess food from the shop will go to those who need it the most.
Sainsbury’s Property Director Patrick Dunne said: “We’re excited to be opening this brand-new store in Hobson Square, creating employment as well as providing Cambridge residents with a convenient location to pick up their essentials. Customers will enjoy coming and getting to know our amazing team of coworkers because the shop looks fantastic.
The manager of Sainsbury’s Cambridge Hobson Square Local Store, Dan Budgell, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome customers for the first time. It’s been wonderful to cut the ribbon and open our new store today. Being involved in the neighbourhood is essential to us, and now that our shop is open, we’re eager to get to know it.
Sainsbury’s recently made the industry-leading announcement that it will spend an additional £185 million in colleague pay, giving the national living wage. This most recent wage increase, which brought the total to £205 million and honoured the extraordinary labour of coworkers, was added to the £20 million Sainsbury’s invested in October.
