Justin Vineyards & Winery, a gem nestled in Paso Robles, California, is taking a bold step beyond its home turf. For the first time, it’s rolling out a couple of new wines that are about to make a splash in the wine world: a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir, both hailing from the esteemed regions of Sonoma County and the Russian River Valley. With a legacy stretching over 40 years on the Central Coast, Justin has been synonymous with top-notch Californian wines. These latest additions are set to add new chapters to that storied history.

Clarence Chia, the marketing whiz at JUSTIN, is buzzing with excitement. “We’re stoked to bring a slice of California’s wine country to folks all over the nation,” he shares. “Justin’s always been at the forefront of winemaking innovation, and I couldn’t be prouder of us venturing into Sonoma County. It’s a place known for its top-tier Burgundian fruits, and we’re thrilled to apply our old-world crafting magic to these beloved varietals.”

This isn’t just any expansion; it’s a heartfelt tribute and a bold leap forward. Justin Baldwin, the visionary founder, planted Chardonnay way back in 1981, making it one of the pioneering varietals of Paso Robles. This move to embrace Sonoma County Chardonnay builds on that rich heritage, bringing a fresh perspective to this classic variety.

The Chardonnay, a blend of grapes from the Sangiacomo Family Vineyards and Flocchini Vineyards, is nothing short of spectacular. Imagine a glass filled with the essence of spice-baked apples, Meyer lemon zest, and ripe Bosc pears, all wrapped up with a hint of flinty mystery. It’s a wine that dances on the palate, leaving a lasting impression of nuanced fruit and vanilla spice.

The Pinot Noir is a testament to the character of the Russian River Valley. Handpicked from the vineyards at the valley’s heart, this wine is a complex affair. It’s a journey through a garden of ripe black plums, boysenberries, and cherries, with a trail that leads to vibrant cranberry notes and a cosy autumnal spice finish.

Reflecting on this exciting venture, Baldwin gets a bit nostalgic. “Launching the Sonoma County Chardonnay feels like we’re honouring our roots while setting sights on an exciting horizon. Our hearts will always beat for our Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style creations, but this expansion is our way of exploring the full spectrum of French-style wines, made with the best of California’s grapes.”

The 2022 vintages of both the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are a testament to Justin’s winemaking philosophy, marrying old-world techniques with the rich, Burgundian fruits of Sonoma County. This foray into new territory and the debut of these eagerly awaited wines underscore Justin’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation.
