O-I Glass has joined the Sustainable Wine Roundtable, aiming to make wine production more eco-friendly. As the first glass company in this group, They are working alongside over 120 participants, including major wine brands, to make wine packaging more sustainable.
O-I Glass focuses on making wine bottles lighter and greener. They plan to help the Roundtable reduce the average bottle weight by 25%, aiming for under 420 grams by 2026. They’ve already developed lightweight bottles like the B0 Estampe™, which weighs only 390 grams and has a smaller carbon footprint.
O-I Glass collaborates with wine producers to innovate greener packaging solutions. For instance, their “Cento in Step with Cento Sicilia” bottles use mostly recycled glass, reducing the need for imports and lowering environmental impact.
Randy Burns, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer at O-I Glass, emphasized their commitment to working with global wine brands. They believe glass packaging is already a sustainable choice. But they continue to improve with initiatives like the Sustainable Wine Roundtable.
O-I Glass feels excited to be part of the Sustainable Wine Roundtable and supports its vision of making wine production better for the planet. They want to help turn this vision into reality.
