Lactalis has agreed to buy Sequeira & Sequeira in Portugal!
The Dairy company Lactalis is buying a Portuguese food company called Sequeira & Sequeira, as reported by the media. Sequeira & Sequeira is run by brothers José and António Sequeira. Their dad started the business in 1986.
The brothers say the sale is because they value their workers and the quality of their products. They hope Lactalis will help Sequeira & Sequeira grow more.
The deal also includes Lacticínios do Paiva, its factory in Lamego, and all its other businesses. In 1992, Sequeira & Sequeira bought Lacticínios do Paiva, which has been making cheese since 1933 under the Paiva brand.
Since then, the company has grown and started selling cheese internationally in Cape Verde and Mozambique in 2008.
Lactalis Portugal’s general director, Miguel Romão, says they’re happy to join forces with businesses that have similar values.
Lactalis will hire 270 of Sequeira & Sequeira’s workers in Portugal, under certain conditions. They already have about 450 employees in Portugal. After this recruitment, the number of employees will stand at 720.
Last year, Lactalis Canada, which is part of the same company, rented a new place in Oshawa, Ontario. They’ll use it to make cheese and spreads for Lactalis Canada. For more information, visit their official website.
