Truck drivers are recognized for guiding SPAR to success.
For the first-ever Driver of the Year tournament, SPAR truck drivers gathered in Sweden.
On March 8 and 9, Scania in Södertälje welcomed drivers from SPAR to participate in three disciplines testing their driving techniques, maneuverability, and safety awareness under the watchful eye of the Scania test center staff.
The race was played out with enthusiasm for driving and in good spirits, and it turned out to be very close. In a close final, Rikard Sunde of SPAR Norway defeated Willie Brown of SPAR UK partner CJ Lang to claim the ultimate victory.
Thiago Caires of AF Blakemore was displaced into fourth place by Stephen Metcalf of James Hall & Co., who was also from SPAR in the UK and was vying for third place.
The competition was conducted to raise awareness of the important role truck drivers play in SPAR’s efficient operation and to advance the field of HGV driving.
Drivers and their guests also had the chance to tour the Scania museum and assembly factory over the course of the two days to see the newest cars. On the demonstration track, there was also the chance to operate a variety of Scania vehicles, including electric trucks and buses.

Rikard was very pleased to take part in a competition recognising his profession and the career possibilities within HGV driving.
“This has been an amazing experience,” he said in reference to the trophy, “and I am both proud and happy to bring the trophy home to Norway.”
