On the 2023 “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World” list published by the Canadian Corporate Knights, Kesko was recognised as the most environmentally friendly grocery trade company in Europe. Since the list’s establishment in 2005, Kesko is the only business in the world to have appeared on it each year.

The ranking of the top 100 most sustainable corporations in the world was determined by conducting a sustainability analysis on more than 6,000 publicly traded companies. Each of these companies was evaluated on 25 different criteria relating to environmental and social responsibility as well as good corporate governance.

In 2023, Kesko achieved the position of having the highest ranking among grocery commerce corporations in Europe and the second highest overall.

“The demands placed on businesses to ensure their long-term viability are always increasing. In order to preserve our status as a pioneer on the international stage, we are required to undergo continuous change. In each of our three departments—grocery trade, building and technical trade, and car trade—we have established stringent goals for the work we do related to sustainability. According to Riikka Joukio, who serves as the Executive Vice President of Sustainability and Public Affairs at Kesko, “Our mission is to enable sustainable choices for our consumers and to drive change throughout our value chain from production to consumption.”

Kesko is the only business in the entire globe to have been included on the Global 100 list of the most sustainable firms on each and every one of the list’s annual updates from the list’s establishment in 2005. On the list for this year, Kesko is ranked 74th. Companies from Finland such as Kone, Neste, and Nordea are also included on the list.

Corporate Knights Inc. is comprised of both its magazine, Corporate Knights, which focuses on topics related to sustainable business, and a research branch, which generates rankings and ratings related to corporate sustainability.
