A new Sainsbury’s Local has opened in Leeds’ Moda, New York Square.
Following the opening of the retailer’s newest store in the centre of Leeds, residents of the brand-new rental neighbourhood Moda, New York Square in Leeds were greeted through the doors of Sainsbury’s newest Local this morning.
The 2,355 square foot store will service the neighbourhood from 7 am to 11 pm, seven days a week, and is conveniently situated in a brand-new structure in the SOYO Leeds regeneration area. Customers will have access to high-quality, affordable household and grocery necessities, including fresh fruit and vegetables, food-to-go, as well as sweet, savoury, and frozen staples. In the shop, there is a self-service Costa coffee maker where they can get a hot beverage.
Customers can pick up their online purchases from the well-known brands of Argos, Habitat, and Tu Clothing using a Click & Collect service.
The coworkers who make up the new store team will get involved in the neighbourhood as well as Sainsbury’s national charitable programmes and projects. For instance, the new store will work with regional food donation partners through Sainsbury’s partnership with Neighbourly to help guarantee that any excess food from the store will go to those who need it the most.

The thriving new SOYO neighbourhood in Leeds city centre is the ideal site for us to open our newest store, and we’re thrilled to be cutting the ribbon today, according to Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director. In addition to assisting and serving the local population, we are also generating new employment for the region. We made an investment in the SOYO shop to make a vibrant, convenient location for locals to pick up their essentials, and we’re interested in what they think.
We’re pleased to welcome customers through the doors of our brand-new store today after working so hard to get everything ready for the opening,” said Dane Underwood, Sainsbury’s SOYO Local Store Manager. We’re excited to join the local community and provide services to the neighborhood’s inhabitants for many years to come. The Moda, New York Square development is a great place to be.
It’s wonderful to welcome Sainsbury’s to Moda, New York Square, said Louise Benatmane, general manager of Moda, New York Square. The new shop will benefit the neighbourhood by putting fresh, healthy food options at the doorstep of its customers, empowering wellbeing with ease. As the shop grows to be a significant part of our community here in Leeds, we look forward to collaborating with Sainsbury’s in the years to come.
Sainsbury’s recently made the industry-leading announcement that it will spend an additional £185 million in colleague pay, giving the national living wage. This most recent wage increase, which brought the total to £205 million and honoured the extraordinary labour of coworkers, was added to the £20 million Sainsbury’s invested in October.
