James Hall’s truck design contest, sponsored by SPAR UK
The SPAR UK regional partner James Hall & Co. creative design competition drew more than 200 entries from participants ranging in age from three to 80. To honour SPAR UK’s long-standing charitable collaboration with Marie Curie, a 10-year-old girl won the competition with her design for the distributor’s new articulated truck.
From among the more than 200 submissions received through SPAR stores in the North of England, Holly Brocklebank-Watts was chosen as the winner. The big premiere of the trailer was held in Kirkbymoorside, the hometown of Holly, in February 2023. The SPAR store serves as the centre of the neighbourhood.
Imaginative design
It’s a fantastic sensation to win the competition, said Holly. My creation was influenced by the rural setting of my home. I take a number of pictures of the area, and the flowers are in bloom in the spring. I chose to plant daffodils on the slope by the road because that’s what Marie Curie’s logo is.
The proud father of Holly Watts continued, “We are all thrilled to see Holly’s artwork on the side of a SPAR lorry. Holly has been eager to see the actual thing. We are very pleased with how faithful the digital redraw is to the original.
advocating for Marie Curie
James Hall & Co. Ltd.’s Fiona Drummond, Company Stores Director, stated: “While celebrating Marie Curie, a cause near and dear to our hearts, we also thought Holly really captured our SPAR North of England region well. Four National Parks and seven Areas of Exceptional Natural Beauty are right outside our door, which is a blessing.
Regarding SPAR UK
When a collection of independent wholesalers received the SPAR licence from SPAR International in 1956, the UK officially became a member of SPAR. There are now five regional partners in the UK as a consequence. The group’s nationwide marketing and purchasing operations are handled by a central office in London.
In the UK’s fiercely competitive grocery market, SPAR has long held the top spot. The five regional partners, who are always creative, continue to expand the business. Independently held, legally permitted retailers, and corporate-owned stores make up SPAR UK. Forecourts, airports, railway stations, city centres, and neighbourhood shops are a few examples.
