Increasing digitalization through the Schwarz Group and Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University’s Business IT Specialist program (DHBW)

The digital age is here to stay. The importance of digitalization is rising within the Schwarz Group as well. The corporate group’s divisions, including the retail divisions Lidl and Kaufland, the environmental division PreZero, Schwarz Dienstleistungen, Schwarz IT, and Schwarz Digital, are leveraging and promoting digital talent in order to pave the way for this digital future.

Because of this, Lidl and Schwarz IT’s educational program has included the degree program “Business Informatics” for more than five years. In collaboration with Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University, Kaufland will begin offering a bachelor’s degree in “Business Informatics-Data Science” in the fall of 2023. The administration department will have two spaces, and the departments of purchasing/procurement, marketing/communication, and human resources will each have one space.

The theoretical and practical components of the three-year degree alternate every three months: At Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Heilbronn, students earn their bachelor’s degree in data science by acquiring theoretical knowledge. They have the opportunity to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice at the various Schwarz Group companies during the practical phases. The students gain expertise in the chosen field while also expanding their knowledge of IT methods and technology. They actively assist in organizing the direction of their education and training by doing this. Students’ personal and professional growth is promoted through engaging practical projects completed in specialized teams, method seminars, or training sessions. The students can further integrate themselves in their respective training company through assignments in cooperating departments and on-the-job training.

Dual education students are paid well at Schwarz Group companies: their monthly salary is EUR 1,500 for the first year, EUR 1,600 for the second year, and EUR 1,800 for the third, plus a holiday and Christmas bonus and six weeks of paid vacation each year. Young professionals can also anticipate a stable training position with the goal of hiring them on full-time.
