SPAR Austria, the largest private training firm in the country, has made 900 opportunities for trainees accessible across 24 distinct retail training specialisations. After completing their training at SPAR, the organisation provides its students with a variety of chances for continued education and career advancement within one of the most successful retail companies in Central Europe.

Due to demographic developments, it has in recent years become more difficult to fill available training positions. As a result, employers must offer attractive options to draw motivated young people. Marc Ofner, for example, is a Deputy Store Manager in a SPAR Supermarket in Carinthia. He started at SPAR as a trainee in retail and wholesale and gained experience at SPAR Austria’s central office in Carinthia as well as on the shop floor. After completing his training, he decided to continue working instore as this better fits with his career goal of becoming a store manager in the next years.
SPAR trainees have team members at their side, answering questions, offering support and advice, and treating each other with respect. Experienced trainers accompany trainees throughout the entire training period and give them regular feedback. Personal development is also a central training element at SPAR Austria. This is supported by various additional training courses, including Green Champion, Fairtrade Ambassador, and Meat or Cheese Expert.
