Aldi Simplifies Checkout-Free Shopping Store

Aldi, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, has upgraded its checkout-free store in London by introducing contactless payment for a faster and easier shopping experience.

With this update, customers no longer need to register through the Shop&Go app on their phones. Instead, they can simply tap their contactless payment card or mobile phone to enter the store.

The Aldi Shop&Go concept store, established in Greenwich in January 2022, enables customers to complete their entire shopping trip without scanning individual products or going through a traditional checkout.

The system employs strategically placed cameras to identify the products customers pick up. Once shopping is finished, customers are automatically charged through their contactless payment card or Aldi Shop&Go account. They can conveniently receive their receipt through the app or website.

Ben Shotter, Regional Managing Director at Aldi UK, expressed enthusiasm about customers’ positive response to the Shop&Go trial. He mentioned that this recent enhancement aims to further streamline and improve the overall shopping experience at the store.
