Albertsons® Companies announces new goal to enable 1.5B meals across local communities by 2030. The Foundation also announced plans of contributing $10 million each year as part of the Nourishing Neighbors program to help alleviate the cycle of hunger.
During the South by Southwest® SXSW® Conference and Festivals, Albertsons® Companies, Inc and The Albertsons® Companies Foundation disclosed two new milestones on their mission to curb the cycle of hunger. Under the grocer’s Recipe for Change® impact framework, Albertsons will now add the goal of enabling a new 1.5 billion meals by 2030 through surplus food donations from stores and funds raised by the Foundation, after meeting its initial goal of surpassing enabling over 1 billion meals. Furthermore, The Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors program will spend $10 million each year to help relieve the cycle of hunger through numerous initiatives such as its Innovation Spark Fund program, the E.A.T. curriculum for middle and high school students, a coalition created to fight summer hunger, and other programs targeting food insecurity.

Ending Hunger Today, Tomorrow, and Forever
As part of the Food Track at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Albertsons worked alongside Kellanova, creators of snacking brands like Pringles®, Cheez-It®, and Pop-Tarts® and joined No Kid Hungry and Regen House, which is a collaboration of HowGood, EIT Food and Institute of Regeneration, to find meaningful ways to help tackle hunger.
After announcing Albertsons’ new meals goal and the yearly investment from the Foundation, Christy Duncan Anderson, The Foundation’s President and Executive Director, actively engaged in a panel discussion with Stephanie Slingerland, Philanthropy CPO at Kellanova, and Anne Filipic, No Kid Hungry’s CEO. Each of the participants shared how their organizations are working, along with other stakeholders, to eliminate hunger and the programs they have committed to in addressing the challenges of food insecurity in America. After the panel session, participants were invited to explore three zones in the event called Today, Tomorrow, and Forever, to discover how they can contribute to breaking the hunger cycle.

Nourishing Neighbors Program
The Foundation’s charity program, Nourishing Neighbors, aims to provide sufficient food to enable at-risk children, adults, seniors, and families to live active, healthy life.
This past June, Nourishing Neighbors commemorated an entire decade of voluntary service. From 2014 onwards, Nourishing Neighbors single-handedly raised over $297 million for an array of nonprofit organizations tackling hunger issues throughout America.
Food Aid Initiatives
Every single year, Albertsons stores donate millions of food to an array of food banks, pantries, and other various organizations located on the front lines of helping to quell the hunger crisis. As per the recent Recipe for Change report, the company contributed more than 92 million pounds of food from its stores, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities in 2023 alone, which has the potential to provide over 76 million meals. Furthermore, local stores actively participate in relief efforts like various food drives and volunteer programs. Combined with the kindness of Albertsons associates and other volunteers, the company surpassed their goal of helping to provide over one billion meals throughout 2023.
