Walmart Reveals Plans for New Stores and Job Opportunities in America
When it comes to investing in the USA, Walmart has a strong track record. We currently employ about 1.6 million people directly, and we support even more jobs indirectly.
Today, I’m thrilled to announce our commitment to creating more jobs by expanding and modernizing the heart of our business—our stores. Over the next five years, Walmart plans to build or upgrade more than 150 stores and continue remodeling existing ones. This involves a significant capital investment that benefits local communities in terms of labor, supplies, and tax revenue, while also allowing us to reach and serve more customers.
In the next 12 months alone, we aim to remodel 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico, generating tens of thousands of jobs. Additionally, each new store we open brings hundreds of jobs to the community, offering attractive perks such as tuition-free college, flexible scheduling, and competitive paid time off.
Excitingly, the first two new stores, both Neighborhood Markets, will open this spring in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. We’re also finalizing plans for 12 new projects to start this year, including the conversion of one smaller location into a Walmart Supercenter.
Our new and remodeled stores will embody Walmart’s Store of the Future concept, featuring improved layouts, expanded product selections, and innovative technology. This initiative has been well-received and implemented, and we’re eager to transition more of our fleet to this model.
These facilities will prioritize sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient equipment, lighting, and eco-friendly refrigerants. We’re even working on establishing a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations, making EV ownership more convenient for Walmart shoppers and associates.
The revamped stores will enhance our ability to meet and surpass customer expectations, whether in-store, online at Walmart.com, or through our mobile apps.
We take pride in the positive impact our store improvements have on the communities we serve. Investing in America allows us to grow our business, contributing to a more sustainable future.
