SPAR Hungary has been honored with a Bronze Effie Award for Hungary 2023 for its Regional Treasures program, which supports small-scale local producers.

The initiative, recognized in the Social Campaigns, CSR, Brands, Companies, and Doing Good category, allows local agricultural businesses to sell their products through the SPAR retail chain, providing customers access to high-quality Hungarian food from their regions.

The Effie Awards are a prestigious recognition of successful and effective global marketing communication. SPAR Hungary’s Regional Treasures program stood out in the Doing Good CSR Award category, receiving a special mention’ for its outstanding contribution to corporate social responsibility.

Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary, expressed delight at the recognition: “For SPAR Hungary, feedback from our customers and recognition in professional competitions are significant. I am pleased to announce that our Regional Treasures initiative has been acknowledged with an Effie Award.”

The Regional Treasures program emphasizes local sourcing, promoting high-quality products from local family enterprises. This approach results in shorter supply chains and reduced environmental impact from transportation.

Over the past two years, feedback has shown that consumers appreciate the unique, small-batch food products with the distinctive Apple’s logo. The initiative has led to over 400 products from 86 local suppliers being available in SPAR stores nationwide.
