Spar Botswana invests in Phakalane supermarket

“In 1996, one of the first SPAR supermarkets in Botswana opened in Phakalane, a suburb near Gaborone, the capital city. Recently, the SPAR Botswana retailer invested in upgrading this store, delighting shoppers with a refreshed experience.

The renovation focused on sustainability, introducing LED lighting and cleaner systems for 90% of the cooling units. With support from SPAR International and the SPAR South Africa North Rand division, the store now offers an expanded home meal selection.

Changes also involved moving the butchery and bakery areas from other locations to enhance offerings for shoppers. Additionally, the retailer’s sustainability efforts included relocating these preparation areas, leading to a more diverse product range.

A dedicated team of 43 individuals manages the daily operations of the 541 m2 SPAR Supermarket, catering to customer needs. The revamped layout, offering convenience and a wider product selection, was designed to suit local shoppers.

In Botswana, various independent retailer groups manage SPAR stores. The Tsteseng Retail Group oversees the Phakalane SPAR, among 29 SPAR and 9 SUPERSPAR supermarkets, along with 26 TOPS liquor outlets.

These SPAR stores showcase an array of locally, regionally, and internationally sourced SPAR Own Brand products, setting them apart from competitors and highlighting collaboration within the global SPAR network.
