Welcoming our incoming Chief Development Officer for the U.S.

The following communication was sent to the McDonald’s US System by McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger announcing the appointment of Tabassum Zalotrawala as Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer.

The following link will take you to Tabassum Zalotrawala’s digital resume and headshot:

With the introduction of an upgraded We committed to using our position of strength to increase the number of McDonald’s restaurants throughout the United States by accelerating the Arches strategy to expand more quickly, meet customer expectations, and strengthen our brand through new restaurant development.

In order to quickly accelerate the development of new restaurants and set the groundwork for long-term growth, we are appointing a strong and dynamic leader to the U.S. Senior Leadership Team. I’m happy to announce that, starting on Monday, April 24, Tabassum Zalotrawala will join McDonald’s and oversee this project as Senior Vice President and U.S. Chief Development Officer, reporting immediately to me.

Because we place a high priority on development as part of our Accelerating the Arches strategy, this position has been intentionally elevated to the U.S. SLT. We’ve earned the right to construct new restaurants and set ambitious goals after spending the last five years devoting our resources and effort to modernising our company, and Tabassum is the ideal leader to further our aspirations.

Tabassum oversaw major real estate development initiatives for a number of restaurant brands before joining McDonald’s. Her most recent position was Chief Development Officer at Chipotle Mexican Grill, where she oversaw the worldwide execution of real estate. One of her projects was named one of “The Most Innovative Projects of 2020” by Fast Company. She previously held a number of leadership positions at Arby’s Restaurant Group and Panda Restaurant Group with an emphasis on real estate, design, and construction.

Being a values-based leader, Tabassum is dedicated to expanding the company while presenting chances to improve the lives of employees, clients, and communities. Her extensive education, which includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts and completion of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, is in line with her development expertise. While working in development, she quickly realised how a career in the food service sector provided an opportunity to scale the influence of her work and aligned with her values – allowing her to create spaces for tens of thousands of guests, support small business owners, and create thousands of new jobs each year.

With her spouse Yusuf and daughter Ummae, Tabassum will move to Chicago as she gets ready to begin her position in April. The Development Leadership Team will continue to work to advance our goals while reporting to Mason Smoot until then. I want to express my gratitude to John Wendel for his guidance during this interim time while we carried out our search. We are poised for success in the future thanks to the development the team has made over the last few months.

I am confident that Tabassum’s leadership will strengthen our status as a leading brand and allow McDonald’s to serve more customers than ever before on behalf of the complete U.S. Senior Leadership Team. Despite our years of consistent achievement, there is still a lot of work to be done. The time has come to take this crucial next move.

Join me in extending a warm welcome to Tabassum on our staff.
