Upcycling Startups Wanted by Tyson Ventures for Yearly Tyson Demo Day.

To find participants for the second annual Tyson Demo Day, Tyson Ventures, the venture capital division of Tyson Foods (NYSE: TSN), has released an application request. On July 11, 2023, the function will take place at Tyson Foods’ global headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas. The goal of this year’s upcycling innovation topic is to find ground-breaking upcycling technologies that will aid Tyson Foods and the industry in achieving sustainability objectives.

John R. Tyson, president of Tyson Ventures and executive vice president and chief financial officer of Tyson Foods, stated that the company was adopting the circular economy and putting waste to use. At Tyson Foods, this entails repurposing and reusing resources as well as making efforts to lessen our environmental impact.

Startups can submit their applications online for review until May 1, 2023, following the format that worked so well for the first Tyson Demo Day event in 2022. From all of the entries, a few people will be chosen, and they’ll be asked to present live at Demo Day. Startups will outline how their upcycling solutions can possibly contribute to the development of a more sustainable food system during the in-person pitch.

“Upcycling is a crucial component of our strategy for feeding the future sustainably. Upcycling benefits our company, the sector, and the global economy in terms of cost reduction and the reduction of waste going to landfills, added Tyson. “It is immensely inspiring to see the creativity and passion the Demo Day applicants exhibit in addressing a challenging problem in the food business.”

After Tyson Demo Day, up to six chosen startups will have the chance to network with Tyson Foods senior leadership and possibly form a partnership with Tyson to try their innovations in actual market settings, aiding the company’s efforts to become more sustainable.

Over 120 startups from over 20 nations applied the previous year, and 20 finalists presented at Demo Day. Six startups were chosen as a result, and Tyson Foods executives were introduced to them in order to explore potential collaboration opportunities. These included executive mentoring and promotion on Tyson Ventures’ social media platforms.

Aayush Thakur, co-founder and CEO of FR8relay, a resident startup from Demo Day 2022, said, “It was a privilege to present to Tyson Foods leadership. In order to create potential solutions, it was extremely helpful to have the chance to learn more about the company’s strategy and execution while also getting input from Tyson’s leadership. We valued the chance to interact and network.

Experts from Tyson Foods will assess the submissions and choose the finalists based on how well the upcycling solutions fit with Tyson Ventures’ investment strategy, their potential for commercialization, and their potential to help Tyson Foods achieve its sustainability objectives.
