WWF-Mondi Partnership Celebrates 30 Years of Water Stewardship

WWF-Mondi Partnership Marks Three Decades

A partnership between the WWF and Mondi South Africa has celebrated its 30th anniversary. The biggest impact of this organization, which began in South Africa to address conflicts between the forestry sector and environmental communities arising from water resource impacts, is being felt.

Water Stewardship Achievements

The following are some of the most important accomplishments made over the years:

  • 15 thousand hectares of wetlands have been restored.
  • During periods of extreme drought, a strategy for enhancing resilience was created.
  • National laws and certification schemes now include requirements on stewardship for this natural resource.

Commitment to Sustainability

According to Vivien McMenamin (CEO at Mondi SA), “For me personally, our partnership with the WWF is a great story about dedication and leadership, the power of people, and the enormous impact we have when we put aside our differences and focus our resources, and energy on the common good.”

Innovation and Future Goals

Additionally, a tool that allows almost real-time monitoring near rivers’ flow has been developed by them. Jeroen Dijkman (Head Nestle Institute Agricultural Sciences) mentions about need identification promising solutions toward promoting nutritious raw material production while minimizing environmental footprint.
