Tetra Pak Receives Distinguished ‘A’ Score In Climate Transparency Reporting
Tetra Pak has earned a spot on the ‘A List’ for the CDP’s annual ranking for leading corporate climate action and transparency, an indication of their commitment towards maintaining a sustainable business operation with minimal environmental repercussions. This award is also indicative of Tetra Pak’s continued efforts at achieving global climate goals while guiding the packaging sector towards a greener future.
A non-profit environmental organization CDP reviews the climate performance and transparency of 22,000 businesses each year and issues a score based on the level of information provided concerning climate risks, opportunities, and actions taken to mitigate damage. Being included in the ‘A List’ indicates that Tetra Pak has been effective at decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and has integrated sustainability across their operations and supply chain.
Tetra Pak milieu emission in greenhouse gasses relative to 2019 has improved by 20% from the previous years as of 2023. The company’s operation emission now also has a 47% drop, while upstream and downstream emission saw a 21% and 17% reduction respectively. This is inline with their long term operational target of net-zero emission by the year 2050 spanning across scope 1, 2 and 3. With the integration of renewable energy sources, improvements of operational efficiencies, and emission reduction collaboration with suppliers, Tetra Pak was able to achieve these targets.
Apart from the C score, Tetra Pak has also earned an A- score acting for their action in emission from forest and even water conserve. The company is also committed to responsible raw material sourcing, water usage reduction, and waste minimization during production to further these goals. This goes to show Tetra Pak intention to extend their responsibility and contribution towards conservation and sustainability of the environment beyond packaging, thus cementing their stand on good corporate governance.
