Strategies to Ease the Economy of the Norwegians

Summer products such as crown ice, melon, fish burgers and summer cotelets will stay at the current price level or lower throughout the summer. It promises Coop’s low-price chain Extra to its customers and members when a price ceiling is immediately introduced on a large number of goods, a price measure that the chain was the first in the Norwegian grocery industry to introduce in August last year.

“Extra has promised our customers, who are also our owners, to be the cheapest. Now we are entering a summer vacation where Norwegians’ purchasing power is reduced as a result of high inflation and weak Norwegian krone. Extra will do what we can to keep the prices of groceries as low as possible throughout the summer and for the whole country. Therefore, Extra is now releasing a price ceiling, which includes over 100 popular summer products. This means that prices will be at the current level or lower out of summer, says Daniel Kyrre Pedersen, chain director at Extra.

– We have used our customer insights to pick out over 100 popular summer products in different categories. Examples of products are SALMA Burger, corn collar and grill rib. The list includes products that are unique to Coop and Extras stores and brands from our suppliers, says Pedersen.

The price limit, which will last until 13 August, is now introduced ahead of 1 July, which is the time when the supply prices of the grocery chains have traditionally changed.

“How the prices will evolve, we cannot respond to for competitive reasons. But we promise to do everything we can to provide our customers, who are also our owners, with the lowest prices. Here, the price of over 100 popular summer products will be an important contribution. In addition, Extra has great promotions, offers and membership benefits throughout the summer, says Pedersen.

Some of the products covered by the Extras price ceilings:
