Start of training at EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr in Moers

Depending on the job profile, they complete their training in administration, at one of the company’s warehouse locations in Oberhausen, Hamm, Meckenheim and Frechen, or in the EDEKA, Marktkauf and trinkgut markets, which are managed directly by EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr (so-called managed markets). In addition, more than 550 trainees have started their careers with independent merchant families in the region. EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr is now training a total of almost 1,900 young talents in wholesale and retail. “As one of the largest employers and training companies in North Rhine-Westphalia, we take our social responsibility very seriously and are very pleased to be able to offer so many young people career prospects again this year,” says HR Manager Claudia Plücker.

A special highlight awaited the new employees from wholesale and retail at the welcome event at Edekaplatz in Moers. Sebastian Klussmann – known as the “know-it-all” from the ARD quiz show “Gefraget – Gejagt” – was a guest speaker. The reigning German quiz champion focused on the topic of learning and taught the youngsters important strategies for everyday working life. A quiz about EDEKA, a table football tournament and a joint BBQ were also on the program. Events were also held in the approximately 1,000 food and beverage stores run by independent retailers in the region to welcome the new employees.

The career starters from the wholesale trade are trained in 13 commercial and industrial occupations. In administration, training in wholesale and foreign trade management (m/f/d) is particularly popular this year, and training as a warehouse clerk (m/f/d) at the warehouse locations. Dual studies are also becoming increasingly important. EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr offers it in three specialist areas, this year for the first time also in the commercial sector. EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr offers six training opportunities in retail. Right at the forefront is the EDEKA-exclusive qualification as a fresh produce specialist (m/f/d), which is achieved at the same time as a retail clerk (m/f/d).

During their training, the young people at EDEKA get to know the food trade in detail and support them from a wide variety of perspectives in supplying the people in the region with fresh food every day. In addition to the classic mix of practice and vocational school or university, they also attend seminars in EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr’s own academy in Moers. Other special features: The training runs via a modern app, the so-called AzubiGuide, which means that the next generation can access the training plan, certificates, tasks and more anywhere and anytime.

With good performance, the doors are open to graduates at EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr. “We train the young colleagues for our company. With good training and a wide range of development opportunities, we want to attract talented people to EDEKA in the long term,” confirms Nicole Linder, Head of Training & Development.
