For the eighth year running, SPAR Slovenia products won the prestigious Innovative Food of the Year Award in its ninth iteration. This year, SPAR products received recognition from the Institute of Nutrition in Ljubljana in the areas of bread and food-to-go.
Bread that has been prepared in an original way
The artisan bread made by SPAR Slovenia that contains seeds has been named the Innovation of the Year 2023 in the category of bakery products. Customers are wowed by the bread’s crust, which has a crispy toasted and aromatic artisanal crust and a fresh crumb that lasts for a long time. It has a high fibre content and is 25% less salty than the standard bread that SPAR Slovenia sells.
“The innovative component of the award-winning bread rests primarily in the preparation of the seeds,” said Botjan Kos, Manager of the bakery at SPAR Slovenia. “The bread has received numerous accolades.” In most cases, these are reconstituted by soaking them in sourdough or water; however, in this instance, they are reconstituted by soaking them in yeast, which is a novel approach.
This renowned accolade has been bestowed upon the SPAR Bakery for the seventh year running, continuing its streak of success.
Products for grab-and-go dining that have been given awards
The chicken cup and vegan fruit cup that are sold at SPAR Slovenia’s SPAR TO GO were the goods that took first place in the prepared food category. The two cups that won awards are pleasant as well as nutritious, providing consumers with an additional serving of veggies or fruit in their diets.

Since 2014, the Institute of Nutrition in Ljubljana has been responsible for choosing and recognising the most innovative food products produced in Slovenia.
