Samsung Electronics and Maison Margiela, a Parisian Haute Couture house, announced their first collaboration, the subversive Galaxy Z Flip4 Maison Margiela Edition.
Samsung and Maison Margiela collaborated to reimagine the design of the newest member of the Galaxy family in the spirit of nonconformity. This limited-edition Galaxy Z Flip4 was created for those who want to celebrate their individuality by combining cutting-edge technology with haute couture.
The Ideal Couple
Samsung has always been committed to breaking down barriers and engineering the impossible, which led to the development of the world’s first foldable smartphone. This ethos complements Maison Margiela’s design philosophy, which is based on defiance, subversion, and rejection of convention.
Samsung and Maison Margiela have collaborated to create a Galaxy Z Flip4 unlike any other. Every aspect of this limited edition focuses on Margiela’s originality and values, both inside and out, highlighting the brand’s authentic core and substance.
Developing a Radical Design
Many aspects of the Galaxy Z Flip4 Maison Margiela Edition have been thoughtfully extended with elements of Maison Margiela’s iconic design philosophy, from the phone itself to its UX, covers, and packaging.
Maison Margiela’s signature solid white with a matte finish was “woven” into the smartphone with a drop of grey to create the ideal shade of white. The phone also uses Maison Margiela’s décortiqué technique, which peels back an object’s outer layers to reveal its core, with fine, translucent lines representing the phone’s internal circuits.
UX: A completely new UX design, including wallpaper artworks and icons, has been created specifically for this limited edition. To capture the texture of a rough brush stroke, the paintbrush artwork was created using an advanced 3D modelling technique. The inverted phone also captures an X-scanning ray’s motion to create a see-through effect.
Accessories: The limited edition includes two iconic phone cases. First, a one-of-a-kind leather cover inspired by the house’s iconic bianchetto technique, which reduces an object to the simple beauty of a white canvas, and its four stitches emblem, which represents anonymity. The case is overpainted to create a distinct texture that acts as a canvas and may change over time. The box is a work of art in and of itself, utilising the house’s revisited idea of inversion and exposing the rough surface of the inner pulp material to create a packaging design never before seen.

Starting December 1st, 2022, an exclusive Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Maison Margiela Edition will be available in select markets such as China (Hong Kong), France, and Korea.
