Sainsbury’s opens a new shop in Merseyside as part of its ongoing convenience store expansion.

The retailer is continuing its convenience rollout with the opening of its Maghull Central Square Local in Sefton, Merseyside, today. Earlier this month, Sainsbury’s announced that its convenience stores achieved sales of £3 billion for the first time, with 12% more customers shopping in Sainsbury’s Locals than in the previous year.

This morning, Sudell Ward Councillor Patrick McKinley cut the ribbon to officially open the brand-new 2,582 square foot Sainsbury’s shop alongside coworkers and customers. The new Local, which is conveniently situated in Central Square alongside a number of other retail and service companies, will assist and serve customers in Maghull from 7 am to 11 pm every day.

Residents, employees, and shoppers in Maghull will now be able to grab a snack from Sainsbury’s delicious collection of sandwiches and “food to go” and a hot beverage from a self-service Costa coffee. Every day, fresh bread and pastries will be baked in the store, which will also offer a fantastic selection of affordable, high-quality chilled food, fruit and vegetables, and other domestic essentials.

Customers can also take advantage of the new store’s Click and Collect service, which allows them to pick up goods from well-known brands like Argos, Habitat, and Tu Clothing while picking up their groceries.

The 17 coworkers who make up the new store team will be actively involved in the neighbourhood as well as Sainsbury’s national charity programmes and initiatives. For instance, Sainsbury’s raised over £5.4 million for Comic Relief over the past year, funding programmes that help communities overcome food insecurity immediately as well as critical crisis appeals.

With its food donation partner Neighbourly, Sainsbury’s also recently accomplished a significant milestone after collaborating with the organisation to provide its 10 millionth dinner to people experiencing food insecurity over the previous 18 months. In order to guarantee that any extra food from the store is distributed to those in the neighbourhood who need it the most, Sainsbury’s Maghull Central Square Local will collaborate with neighbourhood food donation partners through Neighbourly.

Sainsbury’s Property Director Patrick Dunne said, “I’m delighted to see our new store offering shoppers in Maghull a new chance to do just that. Our convenience stores are all about enabling our customers to shop with us when and how they want. In order to meet growing customer demand, we will engage in opening over 20 additional Sainsbury’s Locals over the course of the upcoming year.

“My team and I have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming our first customers through the doors of our new store today, and we look forward to serving and helping many more as we begin to play our part in the local community,” said Joseph Inchboard, Sainsbury’s Maghull Central Square Local Store Manager. I’m interested in learning what customers think of their new Sainsbury’s shop, and we hope they feel the same way.
