-

Yesterday 26 February 2025 marked the grand opening of Sainsbury’s new flagship store in the Alsager region of Cheshire East, and to celebrate, Sainsbury invited the locals to shop for the very first time within the new store.

Customers, Alsager community representatives, and colleagues from Sainsbury’s all were invited to a special ribbon-cutting opening ceremony after which everyone got to enjoy the amazing combination of Sainsbury’s supermarket along with quality fresh food, and great value products, amazing colleague service and service. The first 500 customers at the store received a special-edition Sainsbury’s bag for life. These bags featured a design by local pupils and students at the wonderful Excalibur Primary School, Betsy Abbott.

This new store is now the second Sainsbury’s located within Alsager and is now set to succeed its other Local store in the town. This brand new store is located on the newly created Brunds Farm Road located close to Linley Lane. This brand new store is Sainsbury’s new flagship store, with a size of 25,000 sq ft and is open from Monday to Saturday, 7am to 10pm, with opening hours on Sundays set from 10am to 4pm.

Focusing on “Good food for all”, these slogans enable Sainsbury’s to cater to a wider audience with their range of frozen foods, fresh food, fruits, food to go, and even delicious baked goods such as pastries and bread.

In addition to groceries, customers will be able to select from thousands of items at the new Argos superstore located within the supermarket. Tu and Habitat brands can also be purchased online and picked up in-store using the retailer’s Click and Collect service.

In becoming a new store, Sainsbury’s can now also achieve its Plan for Better sustainability goals. For instance, this store, like the rest of Sainsbury’s estate, operates on 100% renewable electricity. Solar PV panels can also be seen on the roof, as well as state-of-the-art energy-efficient technology throughout the store like LED lighting, hot and cold air recycling systems, and refrigerated aisle doors for cooling fresh products. The area surrounding the store also boasts extensive wildflower planting, with two bee hotels currently on site to provide bespoke habitats for bees.

Customers will find the new Pay-at-Pump petrol station located outside the store, as well as a car park featuring 249 spaces, with 15 allocated to disabled persons, and a Smart Charge hub containing 4 ultra-rapid EV charging bays. Starbucks is anticipated to open a new location on the premises by late spring.

Sainsbury’s is scheduled to carry out the first of its multi-step payraise increase during February 2025. As of next month, all associates outside of London will see their hourly rate rise from £12 to £12.45. Then for August, it is scheduled to further increase to £12.60. This change will also apply to employees of Argos.

In January of 2022, Sainsbury’s fully converted to using renewable energy for their electricity, which includes energy from onsite solar PVs, eight wind farms located within the UK, and REGOs renewable electric certificates sourced from the UK.
