Plaswood™ is used in an innovative flood defence solution

Berry Global and SuDSPlanter Ltd. have teamed up on a sustainable rain garden

Berry Global has partnered with SuDSPlanter Ltd to incorporate Plaswood™ recycled plastic lumber into the SuDSPlanter® rain garden. This green infrastructure or sustainable drainage system (SUDS) can address urban flooding by capturing the runoff from household, commercial and industrial roofs thereby disconnecting roof water from sewers and reducing peak flows into urban drainage systems.

Sustainable Solutions for Urban Flooding

The SuDSPlanter product aims at tackling the problem of impermeable surfaces in cities which contributes majorly to flash floods. These units slow down and hold back water during heavy rains helping to control immediate pressure on drains and sewers. In addition they filter, cleanse and store rainfall incorporating green foliage within hard landscaped areas.

Environmental Commitment

SuDSPlanter thrives for sustainability through use of materials made entirely out of recycled or recyclable sources such as Plaswood recyclable lumber made from waste plastics. The manufacturing process includes washing, shredding, blending, melting down then extruding this mixture into strong timber profiles that are checked for quality at every stage due to their weatherproof properties against moisture thus reducing maintenance costs as well as environmental impact over traditional materials.

Multifunctional & Educational Benefits

More than just mitigating against flood risks; Lorna Davis Co-Founder & Director of SuDSPlanter Limited says it creates “an attractive self-sustaining low maintenance planting space” which enhances local environments also acting as an educational resource for schools & community spaces too. This collaboration aligns with their sustainable values resulting in high specification planters that satisfy both aesthetic desires alongside environmental needs.

Supporting Berry Global’s Sustainability Strategy

Mr Lorcan Mekitarian Sales Director Berry Flexibles Division emphasized how beneficial this partnership would be stating that “This collaboration brings back green habitats and new green spaces into our built-up areas whilst dealing with rainwater runoff”. The move is in line with Berry Global’s commitment towards sustainability where they strive to come up with innovative solutions that meet both customer and supplier sustainability targets.

Recycling Commitment by Plaswood

Plaswood operates a TAKE BACK SCHEME as part of its resource management strategy which allows eligible products to be returned back to their recycling facilities for them being used again in new items made from plaswood. This idea underscores the company’s dedication towards circular economy principles as well as sustainable manufacturing methods.
