Nestlé to Secure Controlling Interest in High-End Chocolate Company in Brazil 2023

Nestlé, headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, has revealed its intention to acquire a majority stake in Grupo CRM, a leading premium chocolate company in Brazil, through an agreement with Advent International. Grupo CRM operates a highly successful direct-to-consumer model, boasting over 1,000 chocolate boutiques under renowned brands like Kopenhagen and Brasil Cacau and a robust and expanding online presence. The completion of this transaction is anticipated in 2024, subject to standard regulatory approvals, with the financial terms remaining undisclosed.

Renata Moraes Vichi will continue to helm Grupo CRM as CEO and retain a minority ownership stake. Her remarkable 25-year journey with the company has seen her transform and substantially expand Grupo CRM.

Laurent Freixe, CEO of Zone Latin America at Nestlé, expressed, “This acquisition strengthens our confectionery foothold in Brazil and grants us entry into the upscale segment. Kopenhagen and Brasil Cacau are renowned for their premium chocolates, highly cherished by Brazilian consumers. We are delighted that Renata Vichi will continue to lead the company, bringing her profound expertise and enthusiasm for the chocolate industry, its people, and its brands. Together, we will explore avenues to further elevate the company’s distinctive premium chocolate offerings.”

Kopenhagen, founded in Brazil in 1928, has continually evolved through product innovation and exceptional consumer experiences. Iconic brands such as Língua de Gato, Nhá Benta, Lajotinha, Chumbinho, and Cherry Brand hold a special place in the hearts of Brazilians, whether as indulgent treats or thoughtful gifts. The Brasil Cacau brand, introduced in 2009, is now available in numerous branded stores across Brazil.

Nestlé boasts a robust confectionery business in Brazil, and this strategic move will enable the company to expand its presence in the upscale gifting segment. Nestlé intends to drive innovation and growth by leveraging its global research and development capabilities. Furthermore, the company is committed to supporting Grupo CRM’s sustainability initiatives.
