Mondi has announced its 2024 Integrated and Sustainable Development reporting suite, covering every aspect of the company’s fiscal performance, strategic progress, and how they are meeting their sustainability goals. All of these items are reported in a manner that demonstrates how Mondi is creating value over time through investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.
Strategic Achievements in 2024
Mondi’s has accomplished a lot with their operations and has increased their efficiencies as well as their production capabilities. Major accomplishments are the following:
- Synergy in the procurement for the value chain optimization to lower costs, improve energy use, and product quality.
- A new kraft paper machine in Štětí is operational: Czech Republic.
- Substantial mills upgrades at Świecie with Poland and Kuopio in Finland.
- Growth of box plants in Simet and Warsaw in Poland.
- Active sponsorship with employees and customers to enable the delivery of compliant and non compliant packaging as well as paper products of high standards.
Sustainability Progress: MAP2030 Targets
The 2024 Sustainable Development report elaborates on what the company has accomplished regarding the Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030). Highlights of the work done are:
Circular Driven Solutions
- 87% of revenue is derived from reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging and paper products.
- An additional 1,776 products were evaluated using in-house life cycle tools and 224 product carbon footprints were calculated.
- Specific waste to landfill has decreased by 4% since last year which is a cumulative 46% reduction compared to the 2020 baseline.
Empowering People
- Employees and contractors completed 566,333 hours of training which translates to an average of 25 hours per employee.
- Strong safety performance with a Total Recordable Case Rate of 0.68.
- Professional and personal support available through the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
Taking Action on Climate
- Absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 31% since 2019.
- There has been a 15% decrease in absolute Scope 3 emissions since 2019, despite an 8% increase in emissions over the past year due to increased production.
- Cumulatively Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions showed a total decrease of 22% compared to 2019.
- Responsible sourcing of wood fibre stands at 100% for Mondi’s, with 76% FSC™ or PEFC certified.
