Mercadona supermarket is going to open on Tuesday, May 23, in the Marco de Canaveses, Portugal

Mercadona, a leading supermarket chain in Spain, is expanding its presence in Portugal with the opening of a new store in Marco de Canaveses, a city in the Porto district. The new supermarket will open on Tuesday, May 23, and will create 65 new jobs with permanent contracts from the first day.

This is one of the 10 stores that Mercadona plans to open in Portugal this year, aiming to reach 49 supermarkets in the country by the end of 2023 . The new store openings will be distributed across several cities, such as Braga, Lousada, Gondomar, Seixal, Sintra, Torres Vedras, Vila Franca de Xira and Figueira da Foz .

The new supermarket in Marco de Canaveses will have an area of 1,900 m2 and will offer customers a wide range of products and services, including sections of Charcuterie, Fishmonger, Bakery and Pastry, Perfumery, Butcher, Fruits and Vegetables and Ready to Eat. The store will also have energy-efficient facilities and measures to reduce environmental impact.

Mercadona is committed to providing quality products at competitive prices and contributing to the social and economic development of the communities where it operates. In 2022, Mercadona achieved a sales volume of 737 million euros in Portugal and paid 93 million euros in taxes through its Portuguese company Irmãdona Supermercados. The company also donated 1,900 tons of essential goods to more than 70 social entities in the districts where it has stores.
