McDonald’s UK Celebrates 50 Yrs of Economic and Social Impact

London, Uk September 13 2024 – McDonald’s UK, marking its 50th year since opening in Woolwich, London, continues to make a significant economic and social impact. The company has expanded to 1,435 restaurants, serving nearly 4 million customers daily, with the help of 200 Franchisees and 171,415 employees.

Over the next four years, McDonald’s will invest £1 billion to open 200 new restaurants and create 24,000 jobs. This growth reflects McDonald’s commitment to the UK economy and local communities. Since 1974, McDonald’s has contributed nearly £94.95 billion in economic output, benefiting its extensive supply chain and partners across the country.

In 2023 alone, McDonald’s UK employed over 170,000 people and invested £62.5 million in employee training. McDonald’s supports career progression, with over 80,000 young employees under 18 starting their careers with the company. Many of these individuals have grown into leadership roles, including franchise owners and corporate executives.

Alongside economic growth, McDonald’s raised £10.3 million in 2023 for Ronald McDonald House Charities® UK (RMHC®). The charity, which supports families with children in hospitals, has helped over 95,000 families since its founding.

The company is also focused on sustainability, reducing logistics fleet emissions, equivalent to removing 19,900 cars from the roads annually. They achieve this by using biodiesel, cutting carbon emissions by 16,250 tons per year.

UK’s this food retailer sources ingredients from 23,000 British and Irish farmers and works with hundreds of UK suppliers. In 2023, McDonald’s UK spent £2.09 billion with domestic suppliers, further strengthening the UK economy. That is really impresive!
