New Liebherr LHM 550 Boosts Adanaport Capacity

-

Following a large agreement entered into in the New Liebherr LHM 550 Bauma 2025, the container handling in Adanaport is ready to expand its operation. The agreement takes a strategic step for the Mediterranean, which is owned by Türkiyes Sanko owner, as it promotes increasing capacity and meets increasing logistics requirements.

Liebherr LHM 550 to power Adanaport expansion

An official handshake at Bauma 2025 marked the completion of the agreement which led Adanaport to obtain its second LHM 550 mobile harbour crane.

The new mobile harbour crane:

  • Has a 154-tonne lifting capacity
  • It performs efficiently in container operations which require two rope systems.
  • This LHM 550 mobile harbour crane integrates with two other Liebherr LHM cranes that already serve the company’s operation.

The business agreement demonstrates more than just equipment expansion. The broad container terminal expansion project aims to increase the quay of Adanaport at 20 meters to create a terminal that measures 40 meters wide. The modified areas will allow the port to handle increasing cargo shipments while decreasing vessel waiting durations.

Adanaport container operations keep rising

The container service at Adanaport began operations in December 2024 and the port has experienced continuous growth ever since. The Gulf of Iskenderun entrance serves as the base for the port where its 1,297-metre jetty operates.

  • Container ships
  • Bulk cargo
  • General freight
  • Project logistics

Industrial factories have chosen this strategic location as the optimal gateway for regional import-export activities.

Adanaport made the investment in a second Liebherr mobile harbour crane because it needs to meet rising demands from industrial customers and international shipping lines for improved service capabilities.

SANKO Group backs long-term investment

SANKO Holding as the owner of Adanaport keeps building its maritime and logistics operations. The organization established itself in 1904 and now operates throughout several sectors.

  • Textiles
  • Cement
  • Packaging
  • Renewable energy

The organization operates with 14000 employees and maintains export operations to more than 100 countries worldwide.

The present crane agreement demonstrates SANKO’s dedication to developing its logistics capabilities through concentrated infrastructure upgrades.

Several essential reasons motivated Adanaport to select the LHM 550 for another purchase.

Several factors led to Adanaport General Manager Hasan ÇİFTÇİ’s choice to work with Liebherr again as he listed key reasons in his decision.

  • Fast vessel turnaround
  • Improved cargo handling rates
  • Consistent service for logistics partners

The company supports both customer-oriented expansion strategies along with sustainable development approaches.

The investment helps Adanaport create a reputation as a gateway that serves multiple functions. The port directs its strategy toward establishing itself as the primary shipping center within Eastern Mediterranean shores by focusing on container operations.

The Eastern Med will experience what follows due to this development

The LHM 550 crane agreement demonstrates that Adanaport has made a conscious decision to progress forward.

  • The organization plans to guide the upcoming development in this geographical area.
  • The organization plans to develop both its container operations and its bulk cargo activities.
  • The facility stands ready to receive bigger ships and greater operational speed.
  • Other ports in Türkiye’s coastal region are expected to adopt this strategic approach.

Managers across the trade industry may adopt Adanaport’s method of crane procurement and quay extension to address growing trade demand together with increasing port logistics complexity.

A machine alone does not describe the Liebherr LHM 550. The Liebherr LHM 550 serves Adanaport as a tool to reach maritime service advancements at a higher level.
