Lidl Germany To Move To Higher Animal Welfare Standards For Beef, Drinking Milk
Lidl Germany has announced its intention to transition its offerings of fresh beef and drinking milk to higher levels of animal husbandry.
Over the span of October 2023 to the spring of 2024, Lidl Germany will exclusively source its entire fresh beef range from farms adhering to at least level three of the four-tiered animal husbandry standard.
Already, the discounter has achieved its target of ensuring that a minimum of 25% of its complete fresh meat assortment comes from levels three and four of animal husbandry by the conclusion of 2024.
Christoph Graf, the goods manager at Lidl Dienstleisungs GmbH & Co. KG, emphasized the significant nature of this step in advancing their product offerings.
He stressed that animal welfare holds great importance to both Lidl and their customers, underlining their dedication to implementing this aspect consistently.
Graf highlighted the necessity of cooperative and trust-based relationships with their partners in agriculture and supply chains for the successful transformation towards enhanced animal welfare.
He stated that the commitment to improved animal welfare can only be realized if producers are willing to adapt their practices accordingly.
The supermarket chain also plans to transition its own-brand fresh milk products and lactose-free milk brands to levels three and four of animal husbandry starting from the beginning of the upcoming year.
By 2024, their long-life milk will likewise conform to level three, completing the process of elevating their entire range of drinking milk to higher animal welfare standards.
For a considerable period, Lidl Germany has been implementing diverse measures aimed at enhancing animal welfare standards, thus aiding customers in making informed purchasing choices.
Being a dependable partner of local agriculture, the retailer continuously advances husbandry conditions and expands its product offerings with improved animal husbandry standards.
This includes labels like the EU organic seal or Bioland, reflecting their commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
