Schwarz Produktion and Lidl GB announced today that they will be opening a new bottling plant in Derby. This shows that the companies are still willing to invest in Great Britain.

Operated by MEG, a part of Schwarz Produktion, the facility has a robust production capacity of 380 million bottles annually. It has commenced supplying Lidl stores across Great Britain.

Key Highlights:

  • The bottling plant, MEG Derby Ltd., is an integral part of Schwarz Produktion, the umbrella brand for the Schwarz Group’s production companies. MEG is renowned as one of Germany’s leading mineral water and soft drink manufacturers, making this its inaugural venture into the British market.
  • Focused on bottling water and producing a range of soft drinks, the facility aims to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact by localizing production.
  • This strategic move will streamline transport logistics, shrink product travel distances to stores, and improve Lidl’s carbon footprint while cutting costs.
  • The newly established plant on a sprawling site equivalent to approximately nine football pitches has generated around 90 highly skilled job opportunities, contributing positively to the local economy.
  • Richard Bourns, Chief Commercial Officer, Lidl GB, emphasized the significance of this venture, stating, “This new partnership with MEG Derby Ltd. is a major step in our commitment to efficiency, environmental responsibility, and providing high-quality products to our customers at the best prices. Localizing production aligns with Lidl GB’s vision of positively impacting the local community and economy.”
  • Jörg Aldenkott, CEO at Schwarz Produktion, commented, “The inauguration of MEG Derby Ltd. is a pivotal moment for Schwarz Produktion.
  • This venture in Great Britain reflects our dedication to sustainable growth. It allows us to serve Lidl stores across the country. As a leading soft drink and mineral water manufacturer in Germany, we believe investments like these pay off, and there’s no better place to do it than in Great Britain.”
