The retailer has ambitious expansion plans across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), and the opening of the new store in Budapest will mark a significant milestone in those plans.
This will be Primark’s 17th market that they have entered when they open their doors.
Primark, a multinational chain of clothing stores, has revealed that it intends to launch operations in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. It is anticipated that the first Primark store in this new market will open sometime during the following fiscal year. The store will be situated in Arena Mall, which is one of the largest shopping centres in the city (16th September 2023 – 15th September 2024). This is the most recent event in the retailer’s ambitious plans to expand their business into international markets.
Following successful store openings across Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and most recently Romania, the retailer’s expansion into Hungary demonstrates Primark’s continued investment and commitment to the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region. Primark is planning to open its first store in Slovakia later this year, which will make Hungary the company’s 17th market overall and its 6th market in Central and Eastern Europe. At the moment, Primark has 416 stores spread out across 15 countries in Europe and the United States.
The new Primark location in Budapest will provide customers with Primark’s signature offering, which includes the most recent fashion trends as well as essential items that can be used on a daily basis at great value prices. This will include womenswear, menswear, kidswear, beauty, lifestyle, and homeware. As part of Primark’s mission to make more sustainable fashion accessible and affordable to everyone, the store will also feature a wide selection of licencing ranges, such as NBA and Disney, in addition to Primark’s expanding Primark Cares label. This is part of Primark’s overall mission.
As part of Primark’s ambitious expansion plans, the company’s Head of Sales for Central and Eastern Europe, Maciej Podwojski, stated that “We are really excited to announce our entry into our 17th market.” Primark’s amazing fashion and everyday essentials at great value prices, as well as our one-of-a-kind store concept, can be presented to customers in Hungary for the first time at the Arena Mall, which is the ideal location for doing so. We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from customers in the CEE region about our other stores, so we’re confident that those in Hungary will also enjoy what we have to offer.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Primark to Arena Mall, and we are delighted that they have chosen us for their market entry,” said Erna Balla, Asset Manager for NEPI Rockcastle Hungary, the company that owns Arena Mall. Primark will be an appealing addition to the array of fashion options that are available at Arena.
Primark plans to open its first store in Slovakia later this year, expanding its network with new locations in Bucharest, Romania; Lodz, and Wroclaw, in Poland; and building on the successful opening of eight stores in the CEE region since 2019, Primark has opened a total of eight stores in the region since 2019. The company anticipates that its store portfolio will grow to 530 locations across the globe by the year 2026.
