Metro Logistics to Manage Fresh Produce Logistics for Alnatura

Metro Logistics will handle fresh produce logistics for Alnatura, a leading organic retailer in Germany. This partnership includes logistics for Alnatura’s own stores and those supplied by the retailer, covering fruits, vegetables, dairy, and parts of the dry goods range.

Metro Logistics sites in Kirchheim, Altlandsberg, and Bergkirchen will store, pick, and manage around 20 million packaging units. Altlandsberg and Kirchheim will serve as distribution centers for over 150 Alnatura stores and food retailers, managing fresh produce, fruits, vegetables, and dry goods. The Bergkirchen site will act as a cross-dock platform for the Bavarian region.

Operations will start in April 2024 after a detailed planning phase to meet Alnatura’s logistics needs. The new strategy shifts Alnatura’s focus to managing purchasing internally and working directly with producers. Alnatura will supply fresh produce to over 150 Alnatura Super Natur stores and retail partners across Germany. They will also continue collaborating with organic wholesalers, mainly for beverages and regional products.

Rüdiger Kasch, Alnatura’s managing director, highlights the goal to manage purchasing directly, ensuring fresh produce supply to stores nationwide. Arnd Stoehr, Managing Director of Metro Logistics, emphasizes their expertise in temperature-controlled logistics and organic quality assurance.

Metro Logistics offers six temperature zones for grocery storage in national distribution centers, certified under food standards like IFS Logistics and organic guidelines. This new logistics strategy will enhance sustainability and efficiency in Alnatura’s supply chain.
