First Whole Foods Market in Jersey City is Now Open

Whole Foods Market in Jersey City is now welcoming customers! Situated at the intersection of Washington Street and Columbus Drive, this expansive 51,156-square-foot store marks Whole Foods’ debut in Jersey City.

What sets this location apart is its design, drawing inspiration from the city’s vibrant art scene.

The aesthetic incorporates graphics depicting the nearby Hudson River, and a cool-toned color palette was carefully chosen to infuse a sense of tranquility into the bustling neighborhood.

Opening its doors at 8 a.m. EST, the store boasts a meticulously curated product assortment exceeding 1,000 local items from the Northeast.

The selection was thoughtfully curated with the assistance of John Lawson, Whole Foods Market’s senior local forager. Nicole Davia, Senior Vice President of Operations, expressed excitement about bringing the unique Whole Foods shopping experience to Jersey City, especially considering the city already hosts one of the retailer’s store support offices.

To show appreciation to the community, Whole Foods Market has generously donated to several nonprofit organizations, including The Sharing Place, Triangle Park Community Center, and “The Community Food Bank of New Jersey”, a nonprofit organization that helps to provide food assistance to those in need in New Jersey.

Additionally, a refrigerated van, previously donated through the Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, will regularly pick up rescued food from the Jersey City store to distribute to those in need.

This marks the second refrigerated van donated by Whole Foods Market in New Jersey, following a previous donation to Morristown-based nonprofit Nourish, N.J. The program, spanning the entire U.S., has seen Whole Foods Market donate 38 vans to various food rescue organizations.

The new Whole Foods Market in Jersey City boasts a range of features, including:

  1. Produce Department: Offering a diverse array of certified organic, conventional, and sourced-for-good offerings from over 12 local farms
  2. Speciality Department: Dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers, with a selection of over 200 types of cheese, including local favorites like mozzarella from Lioni Latticini, Inc. and fresh pasta from Severino Pasta Company.
  3. Curated Grocery Section: Filled with everyday essentials from Whole Foods Market’s 365 brand, featuring plant-based options, frozen meals, pantry staples, and local products such as ground coffee from Paper Plane Coffee Co. and dairy-free yogurt from CHKP Foods.
  4. Seafood and Meat Counters: Offering a full-service seafood counter with sustainable, wild-caught, or responsibly farmed options, as well as a meat counter with butchers available to cut steaks and poultry to order.
  5. Prepared Foods Section: Featuring fresh sushi, self-serve hot and salad bars, rotisserie chicken, self-serve pizza, and a chef’s case offering a variety of entrées and side options.
  6. Bakery Department: Offering in-house baked goods, including Whole Foods Market’s Berry Chantilly Cake, brown butter cookies, and special diet items such as vegan croissants and scones.
  7. Whole Body Department: Featuring a wide assortment of wellness and beauty items, including local brands like Pacha Soap Company’s Raise the Bar line and wood wick candles from Tiny Kitchen Candle Co.

The store will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST for Amazon Prime members, who enjoy various benefits, including deep discounts on select popular products each week and an additional 10% off hundreds of in-store sale items. Additionally, grocery pickup services are available at the Jersey City location.

Similarly, beauty and body care products must meet the company’s body care standards, which ban over 180 widely used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens, and microbeads.
