Cotton growers in Central West NSW are getting a significant boost from Elders. The agricultural company is ramping up its support in the region, just in time for World Cotton Day.
Paul Purvis, an Elders agronomist based in Trangie and Warren, is at the forefront of this initiative. He’s been working closely with Agriland, one of the area’s largest cotton growers. Their impressive 1600-hectare cotton program is part of a larger 8000-hectare farm between Trangie and Narromine.
“We’ve had a cracking season,” Paul says with a grin. The weather’s been kind, with mild conditions and sufficient water supply. It’s the kind of year that makes farmers sleep a little easier at night.
But Elders isn’t resting on its laurels. They’re opening a new fertilizer shed on Agriland’s property. It’s a game-changer for local growers, addressing a crucial need in the community.
“Our customers have been asking for this,” Paul explains. “Now they can buy in bulk or grab smaller amounts when they need it. It’s all about flexibility.”
The shed’s location is strategic too. Situated right off the highway, it makes life easier for delivery trucks, come rain or shine. It’s these little details that can make a big difference in farming.
Over in Warren, Elders has recently opened a new branch. The local response has been overwhelmingly positive, with nearly 100 people turning up for the April opening.
“We’ve got a young, enthusiastic team there,” Paul says proudly. “They’re keen as mustard to build lasting relationships with the farmers in the area.”
The Warren branch is already making its mark. They’re hosting information nights and events, reaching out to folks involved in all sorts of farming operations. It’s not just about cotton – they’re looking at the bigger picture of agriculture in the region.

“It’s a testament to the durability of cotton,” Paul remarks. “These plants are tougher than they look.”
