As of now, a new Independent Non Executive Director has been appointed by Co-operative Group, which goes by the name Co-op, and is referred to as Wais Shafta. Another SEO Operating director will join him in the form of Lord Simon Woolley so that both sides of the spectrum are fulfilled.
Wais Shaifta Joins the Board
Wais Shaifta is an expert in digital growth and technology. He has led several tech-focused businesses and understands how digital tools can improve services for Co-op’s member-owners
In 2013, Wais became an executive director at meds technology where he worked with reach, snappy shopper and the gym group. He is also proper chief lord of the puish doctor which is the head digital supplier to the NHS. Then he worked in Just Eat and Treatwell for operations, business development and international expansion.
Lord Simon Woolley Brings Leadership in Equality
Lord Simon Woolley is a political and equalities activist. He is principal of homerton college cambridge and deputy vice chancellor at cambridge university.
He co founded operation black vote which is an organisation that encourages active citizenship and civic rights.
As a leader in the government of the UK he has worked as an The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme and Police Now Ltd. He has also served as an equality and human rights commissioner at the cabinet of the UK.
Board Changes
Lord Victor Adebowale and Rahul Powar are being replaced by Simon and Wais. Victor is stepping down in March after completing his nine year term. Because of personal reasons, Rahul is leaving after six years.
Co-op’s Future Focus
Debbie White, Co-op Group Chair has expressed her appreciation for the new members and thanked Victor and Rahul as well for their parts in fostering growth within the cooperative and increasing loyalty among members.
