CIV presents strawberries, apples, and pears under the banner of innovation at Fruit Attraction 2024.Innovating fruit cultivation for a more efficient and sustainable future. Fruit Attraction 2024 in Madrid represents a special occasion for CIV, as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary with an exclusive event on October 7th. During the fair, CIV will present the latest advancements in its breeding programs for apples and strawberries, along with the introduction of new projects like the Cheeky® pear.
Strawberries: innovative varieties for Mediterranean climates
Federico Stanzani, Commercial Director of CIV, states: “In recent years, our strawberry breeding program has focused on varieties suitable for Mediterranean climates. At Fruit Attraction, we will introduce Larissa® CIVL326*, a new early and highly productive strawberry that enriches our low chill variety offering.”
Stanzani continues: “Larissa® meets the needs of those seeking a high-yield strawberry with medium to large-sized fruits. Shayda® remains our premium variety in the premium segment, thanks to its consistent production, regular shape, and excellent quality, making it ideal for export.”
Apples: the Lilibet® project in collaboration with Sanifrutta
As for apples, Madrid will be the stage for the launch of the new Lilibet® bicolor apple project, born from the collaboration between Sanifrutta and CIV. Stanzani explains: “This project stems from the need to introduce an early apple in Europe with exceptional organoleptic qualities, such as sweetness, crunchiness, and a bright bicolor appearance, as well as a long shelf life.”
Designed to address current climate challenges, Lilibet® adapts well to foothill cultivation and is characterized by ease of management and scab resistance. This variety will be the centerpiece of an exclusive project in Europe, aimed at introducing tangible innovation to the apple sector through the synergies between Sanifrutta and CIV.
Pears: Cheeky®—the new European project
Among the strategic partnerships established in recent months is the exclusive agreement with Culdevco (Pty) Limited for the commercial development of the CapeRose PBR / Cheeky® pear. This Master Licensing agreement covers a vast strategic area, including Europe, Turkey, and Israel, and marks an important step toward the large-scale introduction of innovative pear varieties.
“Thanks to this partnership,” concludes Stanzani, “we are committed to promoting a pear variety with exceptional characteristics, capable of meeting market demands in terms of quality and resistance to adverse climatic conditions.”
CIV at Fruit Attraction 2024
At Fruit Attraction 2024, CIV will be present at Stand 8C12 in Hall 8, where the most important projects of the year will be showcased. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the varieties that are achieving great success, particularly in the Spanish growing area.
