As a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize Hannaford dedicates $1.3 million to support child health through its “Eat Well Be Well – A Path to Better Health” program in the U.S. The newly allocated funding supports Ahold Delhaize’s Growing Together strategy that concentrates on sustaining healthy communities through a sustainable food system.
Why Child Health Matters
Mike Vail from Hannaford’s Brand President division stressed the need to teach children healthy lifestyle behaviors at a young age. The invested funds target young obesity sufferers by expanding nutritious food sourcing and implementing health eating education programs.
Tackling Childhood Obesity
The United States sees an increasing epidemic of obesity because numerous children aged 2-19 fall into this category. The funds received by Hannaford will establish better nutrition resources and enhanced food options to counter childhood obesity as well as create health advancements throughout the future.
Programs Benefiting from the Investment
Several community-based initiatives that total $1.3 million will receive funding for implementation.
The grant serves Full Plates Full Potential by enabling the organization to help schools prepare fresh and nutritious meals for their students. The initiative serves to provide children home-style prepared healthy foods while removing elements from processed food sources. Strasburger as Executive Director explained that this funding will make Maine free from childhood food insecurity.
The funding will allow Community Servings to expand their Food is Medicine Nutrition Program to provide specialized meals to families and children encountering nutrition insecurity and serious illnesses. CEO David B. Waters showed his support for this partnership because it will improve children’s health.
Extra Support for Communities
Through this funding Hannaford will give $60,000 of gift cards to community organizations that will spend the funds on nutritious snacks for children to nourish them better.
