Amcor Appoints Peter Konieczny as New CEO

Amcor, a leading global packaging company, has appointed Peter Konieczny as its new Chief Executive Officer. Konieczny’s promotion follows his successful tenure as interim CEO, a role he assumed in April 2024 after the departure of Ron Delia, who stepped down for health reasons. Konieczny, who has been with Amcor for over a decade, will now permanently lead the US$13.6 billion business, which employs over 41,000 people across 40 countries.

Konieczny has an extensive history with Amcor, having held key leadership positions since 2010. Prior to his interim CEO role, he served as Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing global category and product management, sustainability initiatives, research and development (R&D), and procurement. He was also responsible for Amcor Flexibles Latin America, demonstrating his ability to manage diverse aspects of the business.

Amcor’s Chairman, Graeme Liebelt, expressed strong confidence in Konieczny’s leadership, praising his exceptional performance during his time as interim CEO. “Peter has demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout his career at Amcor, including during his tenure as interim CEO, where he successfully navigated the company through a period of improved financial performance,” Liebelt said. “The board and I are confident he is the right person to lead Amcor forward”.

Konieczny has expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and optimism for the future of Amcor. “I am honored to take on the role of CEO at such a pivotal time for Amcor. We finished fiscal 2024 with strong earnings growth, and I believe our commitment to customer success, safety, and disciplined capital allocation positions us well for continued momentum in 2025 and beyond,” he remarked.

Despite a 7% drop in sales revenue in the fiscal year ending June 2024, Amcor reported growth in the final quarter, suggesting a positive outlook moving forward. The company, which acquired US-based Bemis in 2019 to become the largest consumer packaging firm in the world, remains committed to its long-term growth strategy under Konieczny’s leadership.

Amcor’s decision to appoint an internal leader reflects confidence in its current strategic direction as it seeks to strengthen its market position in the global packaging industry.
