ALL STORE COLLEAGUES GET AN ADDITIONAL PAY RISE FROM ALDI

By increasing the starting pay for Store Assistants to a minimum of £11.40 per hour nationwide and £12.85 within the M25, Aldi has kept its position as the UK’s best paying supermarket.

The new starting rate of £11.40 per hour, which will take effect on July 1, 2023, is more than 13% higher than it was in the previous year, reflecting an expenditure of more than £100 million in colleague pay over the previous 12 months.

The Real Living Wage, set by the Living Wage Foundation, is £10.90 per hour nationwide and £11.95 inside the M25. The new rates are higher than those.

The only supermarket that pays for breaks is Aldi, which adds an extra £927 to the typical Store colleague’s yearly income.

This statement comes after a string of pay increases, which included raising hourly rates for 7,000 UK-based Warehouse employees.

Aldi UK and Ireland’s CEO, Giles Hurley, stated: “We think our colleagues are the best in the industry, and we are committed to making sure they are also the best paid.

“We are thrilled to become the first UK supermarket to pay a minimum of £11.40 per hour to all Store Assistants, and we are incredibly proud of every single member of Team Aldi.”

Aldi expects to add more than 6,000 new employment to the 4,500 permanent positions it already has this year.

The supermarket, which has more than 40,000 coworkers and more than 990 stores in the UK, was designated by consumer advocate Which? as the cheapest in the UK for 2022.
