Alimentation Couche-Tard Expands North American Presence with GetGo Café and Markets Acquisition

Alimentation Couche-Tard announced a strategic move to acquire GetGo Café and Markets from Giant Eagle. This acquisition adds 270 new locations to Couche-Tard’s North American network. Couche-Tard, a leader in convenience retail, will integrate GetGo’s innovative, food-first model to strengthen its presence in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana.

Strategic Growth for Couche-Tard

Alimentation Couche-Tard emphasized the acquisition’s significance, with CEO Brian Hannasch highlighting GetGo’s strong customer loyalty and innovative stores. “We are excited to welcome GetGo into the Couche-Tard family,” Hannasch stated. The deal reflects Couche-Tard’s commitment to expanding its market while enhancing customer experience.

Giant Eagle’s Strategic Focus

Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman explained the sale enables a sharper focus on its core supermarket and pharmacy businesses. “This enhances our focus on our core supermarket and pharmacy businesses,” Artman stated. The collaboration on the myPerks loyalty program continues, reflecting strong ties between the companies.

Financial Outlook and Future Plans

The acquisition is set to close in 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. Couche-Tard will finance the acquisition through existing cash and credit, with financial terms undisclosed. This strategic move will enhance Couche-Tard’s operational efficiency and expand its customer base in key U.S. markets.
