ALDI Nord Prepares for EXPO Real 2024 with New Location Concepts
ALDI Nord will participate in EXPO Real 2024, Europe’s largest real estate trade fair, showcasing innovative and sustainable real estate strategies. From October 7 to 9, 2024, a 20-member team of ALDI Nord experts will be present at stand B.1.330 in Munich to share their latest development projects and expansion plans.
Urban Expansion and Sustainable Innovations
The retailer’s focus remains on modernizing its branches and expanding into prime urban locations. ALDI Nord emphasizes sustainability, consumer convenience, and strategic placement near transport hubs and inner-city areas. Torsten Janke, Managing Director of Real Estate & Expansion at ALDI Nord Germany, explains, “Proximity to consumers is crucial. We focus on inner-city locations and district centers while contributing to urban development with mixed-use properties.”
A prime example is the revitalization of the Königshof in Essen, transforming a former Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof into a dynamic mixed-use facility. ALDI Nord’s Leipzig branch on Grimmaische Strasse also opened in late 2023, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating accessible shopping experiences in urban centers. Along with new openings, existing branches undergo modernization in alignment with strict sustainability standards.
Sustainability plays a major role in ALDI Nord’s modernization efforts. The retailer has eliminated fossil fuels from new buildings, relying instead on renewable energy sources. More than 550 stores now utilize photovoltaic systems and concrete core activation to reduce energy consumption. The company also prioritizes the use of recyclable building materials and innovative timber construction methods, which have proven cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
By the end of 2024, ALDI Nord will complete 150 store projects, including 20 new locations, 30 relocations, and 50 demolitions with new constructions. Their sustainable, community-focused expansion strategy positions them as a leader in urban retail development.
This blend of sustainability, innovation, and urban expansion highlights ALDI Nord’s commitment to meeting consumer needs while contributing to the future of retail real estate.
