Ahold Delhaize Names Alex Holt as Chief Sustainability Officer.

Ahold Delhaize has recently appointed Alex Holt as their new Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and a member of the Executive Committee, starting no later than June 1, 2024. Alex will succeed Jan Ernst de Groot, the current Chief Legal Officer and CSO of Ahold Delhaize, who is set to retire by May 31, 2024.

Coming from her role as the Chief Sustainability Officer and a member of the Executive Committee at Woolworths Group, the largest retailer in Australia and New Zealand, Alex brings a wealth of experience. Her journey at Woolworths began in 2011, where she held various positions within their supermarkets business before becoming the General Manager of Sustainability, Health, and Quality in April 2016. Prior to her tenure at Woolworths, Alex spent seven years at Tesco, contributing to roles in business improvement, merchandising, and sourcing.

Frans Muller, President and CEO of Ahold Delhaize, expressed his excitement about Alex joining the Executive Committee, emphasizing her expertise in food retail, business leadership, and sustainability. He highlighted her strong leadership skills and understanding of the challenges and impact that sustainability brings to a food retail company aspiring for progress in health, nature, and climate-related goals.

In her new role, Alex as CSO will drive the sustainability vision and strategy aligned with the Group’s overall strategy, fostering collaboration across the organization and supply chain. Her focus will be on enhancing sustainability capabilities within the brands, supporting thought leadership, and aiding the executive team and brands in achieving their sustainability goals.

Alex, a British/Australian national, will relocate with her husband from Australia to the Netherlands for this role. She expressed enthusiasm about joining Ahold Delhaize and its commitment to contributing positively to a sustainable food system. Alex looks forward to collaborating with the executive team, sustainability and business leaders, and the industry at large to address challenges collectively and maximize impactful opportunities.

Additionally, it was previously announced that Linn Evans will assume the role of Chief Legal Officer at Ahold Delhaize by April 15, 2024.
